The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. (KETRACO), the Country’s electricity Systems Operator, has announced the appointment of Eng. Isaac Kiva as its Ag. Managing Director for six months, or until the position is filled competitively, whichever is earlier.

The appointment by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum was announced by KETRACO’s Board Chairman Mr. Abdi Bare Duale in an internal memo to Staff.
“This is to bring your attention that following a meeting of the Board of Directors held on 26th January 2023, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has appointed Eng. Isaac Kiva, OGW to be seconded from the Ministry, as acting Managing Director and CEO for six (6) months from 27th January 2023 or until the position is competitively filled, whichever is earlier,” said Chairman Mr. Abdi Bare Duale.

He is substantively the Secretary for Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy where his responsibilities include overall coordination of the Renewable Energy Directorate, Renewable Energy Policy formulation and development, promotion of alternative sources of energy technologies, staff training and development. He has vast experience in formulation of policies and regulations, project preparation and development, design of electrical services, and contract management among others.

He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Energy Technology from JKUAT and a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi. Professionally, he is a Gold Member of the Association of Energy Professionals Eastern Africa, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and Professional Engineer, Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

Eng. Kiva’s entry to KETRACO is expected to consolidate both professional and financial resources to facilitate the completion of ongoing projects some of which are in the final stages of their completion. He is expected to steer projects teams and advise the Board of Directors to navigate and steady the Company through the interim window.
